This place is overpriced and not worthy. The food is ok, nothing special. it has an open kitchen, so while you are trying to have a conversation you hear the chef screaming the orders what make the place very noisy. The brunch menu is a fusion of different foods.
It really depends on what you're looking for this place. I went for their grand opening 7 course tasting menu following the closing of Colberne Lane. At $120 a person, I was expecting more than what I got. The courses were decent but substantially worse than other tasting menus I've sampled. The server had zero knowledge of the food they were presenting besides the basic <main protein> and <main vegetable> on the plate. The place was loud and seemed out of place for a tasting menu. The service seemed rushed and they served us the bill with our coffees at the end of the meal. Based on other reviews, this place seems to have improved since then but I would think your opening night featuring a tasting menu by 7 executive chefs in high standing restaurants in Toronto would be your best night. I was disappointed -- maybe I will head back some day but I feel like there are other places worth taking a look at first.
After my friend decided to go to liberty village for brunch - and having a wait time of 45mins at "school" we drive and saw origin did brunch. The food was pretty good. The space is great and service good.
Went for dinner this past Saturday evening. Love the location and the space is open, airy, and has a good atmostphere for groups of friends or couples. Tapas style menu made for sharing. We started with the warm pretzel and spicy Spanish fries. The pretzel is as close to cotton candy as you can get and was lighter than we would have expected with a great flavour. The fries were like Iberian poutine with a kick. If you're looking for comfort food, you've got it. If you're looking for light fare, stay away from these. They've got a great kick from the chorizo. The crispy calamari on shredded veg was fresh and tasty with nice hints of ginger and cilantro. The calamari, while well cooked (not rubbery at all) lacked the flavour pop I was expecting. The Chinois duck wraps were amazing. Smokey, crunchy, sweet, and hot at the same time. The highlight of the meal. The Sriracha is served on the side, but a definite 'must have' on the duck. For dessert we had the hot chocolate cake and soft serve ice cream. The cake was delicious, but the ice cream was lacking something. We also had the PB&J ice cream sandwiches which immediately turned us into a couple of seven-year-olds. The flavours were great. Limited but decent wine list. Wine snobs will stay away, but for us there was enough to choose from. This was a great place to spend an evening, and much of the conversation centred around the creativity of the meal and the flavours. A good reminder that food can be fun too.
