My colleagues and I had a ton of fun here. The drinks and food were creative and yummy. One drink came in a Chinese food take away carton - fun fun! We laughed and tried all kinds of options to see what they would bring. Definitely recommend. Surprising amount of seating. Looks small when you peek in the door but there is an attached room and downstairs - tons of seating.
There was time when I loved it here, and I mean LOVED it! But in recent years it just isn't the same. The furniture is gross, as if rescued from an east side alley. The service is poor, the mixed drinks are meh, I wouldn't risk drinking the beer on tap and the bottled beer is $$$ What was once a cool rec-room with a comfy 1980's aura is now a rec-room in desperate need of an renovation. It's smelly and icky and I think the dog peed in the corner. Don't get dressed up to go here, jeans will do the trick.
The Brickhouse is not glamorous, nor is it classy; it is down home, gritty, and feels a lot like a rec-room from an unrenovated '70's house.... and I'm NOT saying this like it's a bad thing. Wear your jeans, your sweater, your favourite toque - there's no judgement here - it's just all about kickin' back with good LP's playing on the sound system, random art on the walls, and that worn feel that makes me feel like I'm Home in East Van yet again. From the comfy, old school couches to the dart board with missing numbers, the pool table that always seems to be open when I get there, I just feel relaxed and quiet inside whenever I walk through the door. I order up a lovely scotch (they have a killer selection) and a gin and tonic for my girlfriend, play some darts, lounge, visit the goldfish tanks in the corner, and chill.
