Like other reviewers noted, you need to like the styling of this restaurant. It is kind of "Old School", but everything is neat and clean. No style mix as in so many other places, so this restaurant shows a lot of taste... One just needs to like it - we sure did! And don't expect this place to be German cuisine - the name Black Forest is a mere coincidence. Again: No problem! This is a Steak House, and delicious steaks you get. Warm bread with spectacular home made butter, lots of herbs, garlic and more was just yummi! The owners do kitchen and service themselves, and both are great! Very attentive service, enough time for a little chat... Overall we had a very relaxed and delicious meal that was reasonably priced. Up for something new? Like steaks? Go there!
Lets start off to say there are only a few reviews on this restaurant but I'm sure that it was the relatives that did the review as a 5 star restaurant. Never mind the décor which is outdated. I don't care about that. I care about the food and service. My husband and I eat out a lot and we have been wanting to try the Black Forest Steak house as we had been there years ago and couldn't remember how the food was. From the start it went down hill. Wines, no selection, still back in the 70's in their wine selection, but prices are in the 2015. You had no choice of the house wine which was Greek. The owners were serving us and you think service would be good as we were the only ones in the restaurant. They were too busy sitting in a corner table gabbing to their Greek friends, which is not unusual in other Greek owned restaurants. I have no problem with that. Fresh hot bread on the menu is microwaved, when it cooled down it was hard as rock. Onion soup tasted like it was a week old. My husband ordered Steak Diane, which is his favorite in other steak houses and I ordered King crab legs for $45.99. We never seen Steak Diane as an yellow orange gravy and my king crabs were pathetic and overcooked. There was no way it was a pound. I go to other places and order a pound of king crab, I can't even finish my meal. I have attached the pictures of our meals. After dinner, just wanted to get out of there. Overall, did it, done it, never be back!
Amazing value. While the place is old (everything from the cutlery to the staff to the fact they still use carbon to for credit card receipts), the food is very good at a excellent price. It's family owned so the staff actually care about your experience. Best in 'fine dining' for Scarborough.
After several visits to the Black Forest Steak House in Scarborough, it has fast become my all time favorite place to delve into a juicy, made to order steak. The atmosphere is small and charming. A family run business for decades. Should be re-located on Danforth Ave. between Pape and Broadview Ave's. so I could walk there. Owner and family make it an experience to remember with a smiling face always greeting you as you enter. Quiet, comfortable, clean and homey feeling. Have taken several family members/friends there on a regular basis. Highly Recommend it. Cost is approx. $20.00/person. Compare to other Steakhouses that run double or triple that amount with far less quality and service. Try it, and I can tell you ....it will be a favorite of yours too.
