I am from the South so I know BBQ. We wanted to eat somewhere else do we didn't want to go there but there wasn't much else open because of the parade. We were VERY surprised to find the food was very good. I had the pork sandwich and it was excellent! We also had great seating to see the parade.
The waffle fries topped with BBQ and cole slaw are delicious. I always try to hit this spot each time I visit. The serving is large and easily shared by two people particularly if you intend to have a set of ice cream Mickey ears or a Dole Whip later in the day.
It is well known that theme parks have over priced food that is mediocre at best. The Golden Oak Outpost is an exception though and is a hidden gem. We found ourselves hungry around 12:30pm, and even though it was lunch time, there were absolutely no lines! For under $15 we got a huge order of plain fries and an order of waffle fries loaded with bbq pulled pork and coleslaw. The loaded fries also came with apple slices. (I guess they are trying to be healthy, although you can't really be healthy with loaded fries...) The fries were hot and crispy, and the pulled pork was juicy and flavorful. Of course, it wasn't as good as my favorite bbq joint, but for a theme park, I thought it was excellent!
I went specifically to the outpost during the lights parade one night to get a parade watching snack for the family. I was hoping for great, flavorful fries and what we received were slightly less than. I'm not certain the fries were overcooked but they gave that semblance. They were just bland (the potatoes themselves). Not really moist as far a fries could go, they were dry and bland. The toppings were cold compared to the hot fries and there was just a disconnect. Oh well, cant win them all!
