Tiny place right next to 2 Bros. Friendly, prompt service. The gyoza was a bit different - heavy on the leeks - but still quite good. The fried garlic dry ramen was fantastic. Would definitely go back.
Decent Ramen in midtown where you don't have to wait for hours, and they even let you pick up your ramen for lunch. That is rare, ramen for pick-up. I've tried to do that before at a couple of good ramen places, and got yelled at. Ramen is not for pick-up, you eat it where they make it. But I have to thank them for making my ramen pick-up fantasy possible. Now, on to the food. I got their signature tabata ramen - coconut milk based soup with spicy chicken stew, onions and cilantro. The soup was flavorful enough and the ramen and egg were delicious too. My only gripe is that the soup didn't really taste like a fatty flavorful natural broth that I am used to at my favorite Ramen places in the city (Ippudo, totto ramen, hide-chan etc). There was some artificial msg filled taste to it. Maybe that's the price I have to pay when I don't have to wait for hours to be seated. I might give it another try and order another dish on a rainy afternoon when I want to eat Ramen at my desk but I am not in a rush to go back anytime soon.
I just lucked into this restaurant by looking up ramen near my location in TripAdvisor. Thanks to the excellent reviews, I looked hard for it, and you have to look - it's a tiny narrow spot but clearly marked when you find the right place. I ordered the house ramen, which was delicious, as good as I've had at well-rated spots in Tokyo and Osaka. The curry rice was also good, although I was expecting a little more heat to the curry. Nice service, good prices, plenty to eat, great food. I'm happy to add to the lineup of good reviews.
Losing heart at the walk that awaited my planned trip to a Mexican place a few blocks down...I figured I might as well try this unassuming Japanese noodle bar. What a treat! This was genuinely my meal of the stay. Unbelievable. Authentic. Delicious. Cheap. I cannot give enough compliments to this place. And the staff are lovely. If you are anywhere nearby, skip everywhere you had planned and go to Tabata Ramen. If an authentic, pokey space with lots of "street food atmosphere" doesn't bother you, you are guaranteed to be blown away.
