I found out about Le Petite Cochon (LPC) from some food professionals that I know. It took a while for me to get there, well because they are in Fremont and I live on Vashon Island. But wow, do I regret not making the effort to get there sooner. Thursday is date night for my wife and I, so a couple of months ago we popped into LPC for happy hour (btw: happy hour rocks) to check it out. But here's the thing, they had Braised Pigtail on the menu. OMG doesn't even come close. Cooked perfectly, nice spicy Asian flavors... I could have finished off 2 or 3 of those babies, but my wife (and rightly so) forced me :) to try 3 or 4 other small plates. The CornBellies (think porkbelly corndog) is killer. The burger rocks and the drinks are tasty and affordable as well. Since then we've been back 3 times. Every time we go we get the Charcuterie board that is all house made and amazing. Honestly if you didn't order anything else you would have a great night, but there is so much more. Don't wait, don't hesitate. The kitchen is open, the staff is very approachable and friendly. There is something always new to try on the menu. Derek, owner and chef posts regularly on Instagram. You should follow.... you will be tempted, you will be curious, but you will go. Seeya some Thursday.
We've made Le Petit Cochon a regular stop on our rotation of Seattle restaurants. Chef Derek Ronspies has a wit and whimsy to his cooking as well as top-notch French technique. We especially enjoy his "Offal Dinners" which feature nose to tail selections from a particular breed of animal from a particular local farm. Chef's locavore philosophy and carnivore tendencies are a delightful pairing. The restaurant is tucked into the second floor of a corner in the funky Fremont neighborhood -- parking can be a challenge-- and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Service is always attentive though there have been a few stumbles, like the night that the Offal Dinner was paired with a small but VERY loud jazz combo, and the suddenly and regrettably trendy choice to not offer artificial sweetners for coffee -- an issue for diabetics. But cocktails are strong, the wine list surprising, and the food EXCELLENT.
