Tiny spot right on Madison. You should make a reservation if you want to make sure to get in. The place is tiny and fills up. We discovered that Sunday's are half price bottles (of wine) night. We ordered the nobile de montepulciano which was fantastic. Goes well with the spicy coppa appetizer and you MUST order the beignets. You won't regret it.
Newly remodeled it is lighter and brighter, the food is the same excellent quality. Had the Brussel Sprouts and cedar plank cheese for appetizer both were very good. For entree we did the bolognase and tagliatelle. The bolognase was good but the tagliatelle was excellent a must order.
Located outside of downtown Seattle in the nearby Madison Valley, Bar CANTINETTA is my favorite small date night locale in Seattle. Small, but great menu, with a wine list that is narrow, but hand selected to compliment the outstanding cuisine. All of the plates a well proportioned and the tastes are well constructed. I highly recommend the melted cheese drizzled with truffle honey or the flat bread Gorgonzola, Italian sausage and figs. Outstanding! Follow this up with glass of Gavi or one of the many Super Tuscans. Reservations are limited, but well worth it. If you walk in, do it by 6:15 on weekends. Salute!
I went last night and have to say i don't understand how this place got such high marks from others. We shared 5 appetizers. I wouldnt recommend any of them. The baguette was black inn the outside. I'm surprised they served it. The cheese or butter spread it came with was good. If that had been brought to the table as a starter, fine. But to charter charge $5 for burnt baguette is not right. The avocado with grapefruit was ok. A bit bland. Very small. The clams didn't have that much flavor either. As i think of it, bland is the best description of all the food. The most bland and disappointing was the $26 halibut in parchment. What a shame when that beautiful piece of fish could have been so good. It Sat on a bed of spinach, that had some flavor, but the fish itself had no seasoning. Bland bland bland. Desserts were the best course. The peach rose sorbet was the best item i ate all night. The chocolate cake was excellent, though very small for $10. The place is noisy and dark. Bathroom is icky, in an office building down a long hall. I really wanted to like this place, but there was not much to like.
