Being tired of The Strip's overhyped and overpriced Italian eateries, Gina's was recommended by my neighbor, so we tried it. It is evident that the owner is very proud of his restaurant for it is immaculate with a simple decor. He is from Genoa and it is a great indication when an Italian restaurant is actually owned and managed by an Italian. His mother is the chef/cook and she speaks no English. For starters, we shared a caprese. The mozzarella was too cold for my taste. It should be served room temperature, but the tomatoes were ripe, sweet, and properly seasoned. We ordered the fish special, a sole prepared in a puttanesca tomato sauce which was light, properly seasoned, ample and served with capelinni with the same sauce. The pasta was firm; I prefer a little more al dente which is difficult with a very thin pasta; otherwise, a delicious selection. Our friends ordered the Salmone Amalfi, which very tender and also in a light tomato based sauce; they chose the sautéed vegetables. Then, we ordered the spumoni cake that I thoroughly enjoyed. The owner also brought their desert special, a salami chocolate desert as a courtesy. It was very different but outstanding. The wine list was very reasonably priced with good but limited selections. It is a small place, 32 seats, so it reasonable to expect this neighborhood eatery for what it is-- a good local place with no fluff just a good meal. They are open Tuesdays thru Sunday for dinner only. With a bottle wine, dinner for four was $140.00, which you can spend for one person on the strip and still be hungry afterwards. Worth trying and we will be back.
Family we were visiting took us to Ginas. From the outside the restaurant looks like any other strip mall business; however, we were very surprised when we saw the interior. The staff was very friendly and the meal was fantastic as was the varied menu. The saying " don't judge a book by it's cover" definitely fits here. We would go again!
So much better with this owner. This is a quaint location with an amazing Italian wine list. Food is authentic & delicious. Portions are a little smaller for the price, but still a great experience.
If you are looking for a restaurant where: *The owner personally waits on you, *His mom is in the kitchen cooking your dinner, *The food is homemade, delicious, and reasonable, *The wine is from Italy and is half-price on Wednesdays. Then, this is the place. The outside of this little gem does not give any indication as to what is offered inside. It is a small place and I recommend that you take your time here. Dining is an wonderful experience at Gina's Bistro.
