A "real" place that doesn't take itself seriously. Very good sandwiches, well-made scrambles, fruit that is fresh and tasty, nice cinnamon buns served hot, tasty pancakes (tho' I'm not sure that was real maple syrup), and our bacon was overdone. All in all, well worth a revisit (and another after that!)
They don't make 'em like the Salmon Bay Cafe any more, and that's too bad. The place exudes the charm of a place that has been serving breakfast forever. No pretensions, just the patina of age and countless repetitions. The food is okay. I take the home fries over the hash browns, and I won't order the biscuits and gravy again because the biscuit reminded me of ship's biscuits from the 19th Century. But I'm glad we choose this restaurant over Hattie's Hat. Service was odd.
I love going out for breakfast with friends. There are a lot of "good" breakfast places around, but Salmon Bay provides the best mix of good food, friendly service and relaxed ambiance. Meet me there?
