So this place is mainly a morning breakfast stop. And it's got GREAT prawn noodles aka hokkien mee (small bowls so don't worry about it being too much for breakfast). Soup so thick, it seriously ruins this dish for you most anywhere else! Then there is the charcoal fire made apom manis (gula melaka need I say more?? Ok there's never enough gula melaka spread in it for me). Go early, be prepared to wait for a table, or really any space or else you might just be staring at them clean up the stalls cause they are done for the day. And then just go for it. You can walk it off and then go round the corner of the market to eat freshly made putu mayam after. For me, a definite must go next time I'm back.
Went there again this morning for breakfast.. Got there at 8.30 because if U get there any later, you won't be able to eat the famously delicious Apom!!! Yes it sells out by 10 yish.. And they would have prob sold over a few thousand pieces by then.. Another thing u should try is the dry Sabah ban mian just next to the Apom stall.i was initially apprehensive because it didn't look quite the same as my KL chili ban mian. But oh wow.. It tasted way better then it looked. The wan ton noodles is prob one of the best I've tasted around Penang as well. The Al dente texture of the noodles coupled with the rich sauce makes this dish amazing!! Overall one of my favorite haunts in Penang. A must visit!!
Great Apom Manis (sweet Indian Crepes). It takes time to make an apom, glad that there is someone still making it, ON CLAY POT. taste superb, eat while its how. Just order 20 Apom for the 1st round. Sublime. Come early morning, at 630-7am for minimal waiting time. Other food stalls are good too.
You have to wake up early, before 8:30am to get all the food in this old coffee shop. I would say this is all the best food in Penang condense into one coffee shop. Hokkien prawn mee, curry mee, wanton mee, mee goreng, apom, ban mian. Tips: Don't throw in all the chilli they serve with the hokkien mee. Its very spicy and will spoil the taste of the thick gravy Tips: Order bee hoon goreng instead of mee goreng. The bee hoon will absorb all the sauce and it makes it tastier.
